This is why service matters. Why does fighting in a land far away matters?
I am a first-generation Korean American. I am here today because men like Mr. Bob Roush Sr. fought in the Korean war. This Army Veteran fought an old-forgotten war and helped make a difference for my family. Maybe not directly, but his part helped shape my future.
….
My family lived through the Japanese occupation, World War II, then the Korean War. Thereafter my father was born in a country that had been ravaged by years of war. As an orphan, his future lay in adoption in America. Fast forward my father enlists in the Army, gets stationed in Korea meets my mother and you can say the rest is history.
…..
I sped through the history of our family. But here is what I want you to know. Our family understands what war means. My family has lived through it. My ancestors can speak about the Americans and the heroism they displayed in bringing peace to their country. I don’t talk about the lineage of my family often, but nobility, titles, and royalty run through these veins. All of that doesn’t matter, and my family knew to have the freedom it lay in America. I still remember the day my grandparents took their oath as a citizen of America. How much they cried and how proud they were to be called Americans.
…….
Never forget that the price of Freedom is never Free. It is paid by those that serve. Like Mr. Roush who helped make a difference.
